I absolutely love City Dogs. It's is so damn cool that SLC has a vegetarian/vegan hot dog cart. I just ate there again yesterday. I fed 5 people for $18, so it was a bargain as well as delicious. I had the BBQ rib sandwich, which always makes me feel a bit odd ordering it considering the name and how long I've been a vegetarian. Anyway, it is delicious. They prepared it with soy cheese and jalapenos for me. I added sauerkraut and 2 kinds of mustard as well as some tabasco. It was killer.

City Dogs is fantastic. It seems like most of the reviews here are from Miah's tenure as proprietor. Now the stand belongs to Jesse, who is a top-notch dog slinger. The food is as great as ever, and I say that as a non-Vegetarian (although I'm thinking of making the switch). It's also nice to chat local politics with Jesse and anyone who might be visiting the stand that day. Always a fun crowd. Check it out!

City Dogs is the best! I typically come here a few times a week, sometimes way more. I'm not 100% vegi but I'm most certainly done with hotdogs, real ones anyway. It's all vegan and it's all good! I've been coming here since I ran across it in 2008, Jesse is the newest owner and is quite the character and always happy. Like Mia and the 1st owners, they always remember your name and what you order. I don't remember the 1st owners name but his wife's name is Dee, hence the "Dee Dog." I won't go into details of the menu as I see others already covered that. It's mainly Tofurky products, which I cook at home but can never get it quite like they do. All the fixing's and ingredients are vegan down the bun which is amazing. I'm not a potato salad guy by any means but my lady is quite fond of it. Dillos, the vegan twinkies are to die for and far better than the real thing. Such a great idea and concept, I wish there was more of this around. My only gripe is they close for the Winter but understandably so, it's cold as hell here.

The food is good, but over priced. However, if you are in the mood for hotdogs, then this is the place to go. However, they closed.

City Dogs is fantastic. Great food, great options. I would give it five stars if it wasn't for the fickleness of the hours and operations. It seems as if the owner/workers may not have enough help because if the slightest thing goes wrong, they don't open that day. I wish them continued success and hope they find extra help in order to have more steady hours. You never know if they will be there, open and ready for business. But when they are, you know I'll be waiting in line for a beer brat!

Jesse is the new stand owner, and he is just as amazing. He is fun, nice, and makes awesome dogs! I recommend trying the Dee Dog and the Rib Sandwich if you are looking to have your mind blown.

Just visited City Dogs for the first time, and it won't be my last! I asked the vendor to give me what he thought was best: Big D with Italian sausage. Jalapenos, cream cheese and avocado - so amazing! Can't wait to try some other fancy dogs next time.

Salt Lake City needs more food purveyors like City Dogs! It's a really good idea that has been awesomely executed. Every item that I've selected so far from the all-vegetarian menu has been totally delicious. I usually get the tacos, which are generously slathered with scrumptious toppings (jalepenos, your choice of dairy or vegan cheese, and non-dairy sour cream). However, the dogs are awesome, too (aside from regular veggie dogs, they also offer really great veggie brats and italian sausage) . I haven't gotten around to trying the BBQ pork, but that's definitely next on my list. The owner is a really nice guy, and I can't wait for them to open back up after the winter is over so I can satisfy my City Dogs craving!

Finally made it out to check them out today. Heard about them on a blog community where a user was raving about how awesome they were. It's just a cart on the downtown city sidewalk, but they are doing a stellar job as a small independent operation. My companion got the tacos, which gets you two soft flour-tortilla tacos made with guacamole, jalapeños, sour cream, shredded cheddar, salsa, tomato, and onion. The meat-substitute on the tacos was delicious and very well seasoned. I grabbed the Dee Dog, which is slathered in cream cheese, avocado, and shredded cheddar (you can get soy or dairy) and jalapeños to top it all off. It was fantastic. The veggie-dog was better than any store-bought that I've had, it was much more tender and flavorful. This place offers vegetarian BBQ-pork sandwiches, jumbo beer-brat style specialties, and a few other varieties of basic dog and chili cheese dog. I was very impressed and the folks running it were SO nice. They operate 11a-4p on Mon-Fri -----Be sure to tip them!!

I went here for the first time yesterday and had the City Dog and the Beer Brat! Great, friendly service! I wish all businesses interacted with their customers in such a friendly way. The dogs were good, but not the best I've had, although I'd recommend it! 4/5 stars! The Beer Brat was especially good, and next time I go I have to check out the Italian Sausage.

I love meat. There I said it. I do. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy vegan/vegetarian food too. More often than not, I buy vegetarian burgers, "chicken" sandwiches, and "chicken" nuggets for my home. And boy do I love tofu. But really, I can't help but love meat. City Dogs has a good thing going for them. Is it anything fancy? No. But it tastes good. I usually get the regular hot dog for $3 and I don't have a problem with the texture. I prefer it over regular hot dogs but the texture is different for those who love meat hot dogs. If I'm in a spendy mood, I love the Italian sausage but at $6, it's sometimes more than I want to spend. The cart has all of your normal fixings: ketchup, mustard, relish, fresh diced onions, sauerkraut, etc. Yum. I believe they have other food choices. I hear of rib sandwiches, specialty dogs, and whatnot but I'm content with the hot dog or Italian sausage! Of course City Dogs also offers drinks, chips, etc. Jesse, the new owner is always a sweetheart. Really friendly, as is his staff when he's not around.

I am not a vegetarian in any way, shape, or form but I really enjoyed the Italian sausage I had at City Dogs. My decidedly carnivorous boyfriend also really enjoyed it. I want to try the BBQ rib sandwich but both time I have been to this stand, that has been sold out. The big downside- the hour are realllllllly hit or miss. I discovered if you add City Dogs on facebook the owner will update daily on specials and what time he will be out there on the corner workin' his stuff - that sounded bad. Make sure to bring cash - and don't forget to tip, you stingy Utahns!

I visit this place almost 2 times a week. Being a vegetarian it is difficult to find quick and cheap lunches. The owner is Miah and he works the cart daily. Miah is super friendly He loves working at the cart and makes your dining experience special. I always order the vegan potato salad and an Italian sausage "dee" style, which includes avocado, cream cheese and jalapenos. The menu is all Vegan and not limited to hot dogs. You can also order the BBQ rib sandwich or the tacos. Every day there is a lunch special that is around $5 and includes a dog, chips and soda. Even my meat eating friends love this place! Check it out y'all, you wont be sorry.

City Dogs is a local hot dog cart that features vegetarian and vegan hot dog menu if you can wrap our mind around that concept then read on. They set up downtown and at various events in the downtown area. The guy who runs the cart is super nice and very helpful. I always feel like I'm slumming when I eat at a veggie/vegan place. I mean, how the hell is life not better with chicken stock? Flame on you vegetarian bastards! I can take you all with with a tofu bat fried in peanut oil that was used for my dog's flea dip. I'd also like to point out that it's pathetic to eat vegetarian food that is modeled on meat-based food. How about a rack of cornpone? Or a nice smoked brisket of bean curd? Invent your own cuisine for crying out loud. This is why you don't see "bacon on the cob" or "ants on a sausage log." I'm glad I got that off my chest. The City Dogs menu has about 5-6 different dogs on it. The toppings are mostly applied by the customer. Every time I have eaten there the guy hands me a dog in a bun and smiles. I like to dress my dog, but it would be nice if he put certain things on for me. Otherwise, $5 starts to feel like too much to pay. The dogs he sources are definitely better than the awful veggie dogs you're going to find in a supermarket. That's really his only advantage: better dogs. The buns are standard, and that toppings are good, but they are not anything a well stocked refrigerator wouldn't have. The Italian Sausage dog is very tasty for a meatless dog. (What it lacks in fat I'm sure it makes up for in carbs.). The brat and other items are good too. It's just that they are not quite $5 good. I suppose they are if you're a vegetarian or vegan. Still...as a meat eater...I miss the satisfaction of eating an actual beef hot dog. I like City Dogs, and I like having an alternative cart downtown. I need the toppings, service, and menu choices to step up a notch in order to justify $5 a dog. (they do offer a daily special: $5 for a dog, chips, and a drink) At this point I consider City Dogs a lower 2nd tier lunch option.

I have always heard about this place and never had a chance to try it out until recently. The Food is great. One of the Best hot dogs Ive ever had and to top it off its vegan as well. Ive always got the city dog. but have tried the Dee dog as well. The only thing I would change about city dogs is to have more hours.

Miah is always a pleasure to see when I make the journey downtown. I usually get the City Dog (check out the menu at saltcitydogs.com ) and am ALWAYS impressed. So sad that they're closed for the winter!

As a vegan, there is no short supply of restaurant options around this fair city. However, this is the only vending cart that I know of that caters to vegetarian/vegans. It is a hot dog stand. They have tofu dogs, which are pretty standard tasting. But they really dress them up with condiments. cream cheese, pickled asparagus, and avocado are some of the more unusual toppings that are on their menu. They also have great chili dogs. I tend to go for the italian sausage or beer brat. I believe they are the tofurkey brand, and they are just an all around better tasting dog than the tofu dogs. There are an array of condiments to choose from to top these dogs. The standard ketchup, mustard (yellow and spicy brown), and relish. Also onions, jalapenos, sauerkraut, and vegenaise! Yes, pour some vegenaise on that dog and it will really melt in your mouth. They also sometimes have vegan potato salad which is tasty. The dogs are about $5. Hours are generally 11am-3pm on the corner of 300 s and 200 e. I've also seen city dogs at craft sabbath and other events/festivals around town. There is generally always a buy one, get one free coupon in the city weekly that you can use for italian sausage or beer brats. It is cash only. I would have actually given this all 5 stars, but I have had home made vegan sausages in San Francisco and that is about as good as it gets. But for Salt Lake City options, especially on a lunch break downtown, this is top notch.

I am not vegan or vegetarian but I would kill someone's grandma for the vegan barbecue rib sandwich. soooo.... good.

I had the chili dog special. Homemade chili was tasty and for just $3.50 for the dog, a bag of chips and can of soda, it was a great value. I'm just not wild about the vegan dog. It had a texture that would take me a little bit to get used to. My bun was also pretty dried out. If I knew and vegetarians or vegans I'd recommend this cart, and I'll probably wander back myself, but I just wasn't blown away. The service was very friendly though. I'd be a lot grouchier than these guys if I never ate meat.

The only food cart I'll eat at. City Dogs is a all vegetarian/vegan food cart that is usually on the corner of 300 S and 200 E, though I have seen them in different locations for events. I'm a meat eater and had heard nothing but good things about City Dogs from all my veg friends. The couple that runs the cart are the sweetest people you'll ever meet. They recommended I try the Dee Dog but have it made with italian sausage. !!!!!!!! So good, basically an italian sausage slathered with cream cheese (dairy free), cheddar cheese and jalapenos. Definitely better than any store purchased veg sausage I've had. Makes me wish I worked downtown so I could stop by for lunch daily. Perfect for a quick, cheap, healthy and tasty lunch.

Let me be frank. I hate hot dogs. But these dogs are VERY good. The regular hot dog is delicious. The bun is a step above your barely-there, generic grocery store bun. Condiments are standard. I've had the chili cheese dog which was great as well. And the sausage dogs. Good stuff!
